Saferal times a week we can't shutdown some laptops/desktops (random) after using Safe Exam Browser.
Safe Exam Browser is properly closed, with Ctrl. Q or shutdown sign bottom right

The issue is:
instead of shutdown/sleep/logoff we see:"There are currently no power options available"
Ctrl+Alt+Delete no taskmanager

Sometimes it's possible to click on username and choose logoff, and then on the Windows logon screen click shutdown. Sometimes even this isn't possible.

I saw, that this 'bug' was in older versions, but we use SEB 3.0.1.163.
Running the SEB Registry Resetter fixes the problem.

Windows 10 Home 10h2, and earlier
SEB 3.0.1.163.

It should be nice that this got fixed, or that we can run the SEB Registry Resetter sort of automatticly without user knowledge

Kind regards

We highly recommend to always use the latest version (currently 3.1.1). As far as I remember, we did some further improvements after 3.0.1.

Yesterday I installed the latest SEB version (3.11). The problem in not solved with this version. It's even worse.
We used 12 laptops and all laptops had the same problem when shutting down, "There are currently no power options available"
I am wondering if it has something to do with the fact that this laptops have more then one useraccount.
We start the laptop with user X, open SEB, start exam, make exam, close exam with Ctrl Q, shut down laptop as user X
as it's not possible to shutdown, we log off user X, and on the Windows startscreen we choose shutdown. Sometimes this is possible, sometimes not and we keep on getting the "There are currently no power options available"

Can you provide the log files? They can be found under %LocalAppData%\SafeExamBrowser\Logs.

Yes I can. Do you want all the logs from this map or only the most recent? Can I send them private?

Preferably all the logs from the sessions where the issue occurred.

The log files of 6 different laptops

Could you specify the point(s) in time of the session(s) where the error occurred?

According to the logs, everything was restored correctly on shutdown. The only thing I see is that on all machines, Windows Update has been restarted (and immediately been terminated by SEB again) several times, but that should not cause this issue.

Regarding the used Windows versions: Did you mean 20H2 and earlier? I'll double-check with my machine which has 20H1.

Yes I mean Windows 10 20H2 and earlier.

The shutdown problem can indeed be caused by Windows Update in combination with SEB.
We use the laptops only for taking online exams, the rest of the time they are stored in a locker.

    The procedure is,
take laptops out of the locker
    start laptop
    start SEB, take exam
    end SEB
    shutdown laptop (often not possible)
    put it in the locker

Aha, okay that might actually be the issue. You should make sure that your systems are up to date, this unfortunately includes for Windows that you start them every once in a while so that they can perform their updates. Or you might be able to do this automatically / remotely, depending on what your infrastructure setup is.

Or if you don't want to perform any updates, I think you should be able to disable updates and keep Windows on a fixed version / build. But you'd need to contact a system engineer for that, I'm not too familiar with this aspect of Windows.
