For our November “Community Choice” Project of the Month, the community elected Ditto, an extension to the standard windows clipboard that allows you to quickly access previous clipboard entries at a later time. Ditto was previously elected “Community Choice” Project of the Month in January 2016 where lead developer Scott Brogden spoke about the project’s developments and direction. Recently we caught up with Scott to find out how the project has been doing since then.
SourceForge (SF): What significant changes have occurred with your project since you were voted Project of the Month in January 2016?
Scott Brogden (SB): Most of the changes over the last 2 years are trying to keep Ditto updated so it’s relevant in 2018. That includes:
- Updated the look of the ui
- Better organized config settings
- Support for per-monitor dpi to help with high-resolution screens
- New distribution methods
– Windows store
– Chocolatey - Updated to the latest build environment in visual studio
- Support viewing html in description window since most online editors copy in html not rich text
- Lots and lots of little changes
SF: Have any of your project goals changed since then?
SB: I don’t think they have changed; it’s still to create a small, fast, reliable clipboard utility.
SF: What project goals or improvements have you achieved so far?
SB: Keeping Ditto updated so it’s still relevant.
SF: What can we look forward to with Ditto?
SB: I’ve been toying with cloud sync using dropbox and would really like to finish this.

I am a member of the Windows Insider group and we have been beta testing Redstone 5 since April (I joined in July). Anyway, a clipboard utility is included in it that allows you to store your clips (you can pin them so they remain boot to boot). Everybody running Windows 10 currently are running Redstone 4, 5 was due to be released as a general upgrade last month but Microsoft is still polishing it and adding lots of new features.
I use Ditto daily.
One thing I would like to see is the ability to print stored items.
